Wellington Race Club

The Wellington Boot racing carnival is done and dusted for another year and it did not disappoint with the weekend seeing some of the biggest fields in a long time. The State Wide Shed's Wellington Boot 2yo race was won by Lucy Rose and ridden by Matt Cahill which makes it three boot wins for Cahill now.

The Country Championship qualifier was one by Distinctive Look ridden by Koby Jennings and closely followed by Galaxy Warrior ridden by Allan Chau. Galaxy Warrior is trained by well known Mudgee Trainer Gayna Williams. Gayna had a pretty good run for the weekend with Redirect taking first place in race 2 on saturday. On sunday Gayna took home third place in the Magic Millions Class 1 showcase with Taking Liberties and first place in the Help Em Shearing Country Maiden with Western Pararde.

Greg Ryan proved why he is still the best jockey in the west with five wins and three 2nd's for the weekend. Greg missed out on a hatrick for the Wellington Boot. Mathew Cahill was not far behind with three wins and a 2nd for the weekend.

The Magic Millions 2yo raffle was won by Don Daniels from Long Jetty. Don has decided to keep the Filly and has got a few friends to help syndicate it and will be trained by well known Wellington Trainer Karen McCarrol. With a funny twist Karen now has two raffle horses in training as she has the 2015 raffle horse Tennessee Pasha which after a 37 week spell narrowly missed out on a win when she came second on Saturday over the Boot weekend. Last years raffle filly Im a Lucky Girl has recently returned to the track and trialed in Hobart, hopefully she gets a few wins for the owners.

We wish a speedy recovery for jockey's Ms Winona Costin who has two broken wrists and Brock Ryan who injured his shoulder after they had a fall in separate races where sadly two Horses had to be humanely euthanized.

With the track still in great condition after the Boot weekend it's a shame that we do not race until July now but from the Wellington Race Club Committee we would like to say a big thank you to all trainers, owners and jockeys for a great weekend of racing, until next time take care.
